Inaugural Lecture ISCPSI

Professor Maria Fernanda Palma holds the inaugural lecture at Instituto Superior de Ciências Policiais e Segurança Interna ISCPSI, on December 13, on the topic “Defence of policial authority”. The lecture is part of the solemn opening of the academic year 2016/2017, in a ceremony being presided over by the Minister of Internal Administration.

Major issues of criminal law and theory of justice in the 21st century

The Research Centre for Criminal Law and Criminal Sciences organizes the second part of the conference «Major issues of criminal law and theory of justice in the 21st century».

On November, 17 (5:30pm), the conference on The Neuroscientific Challenge to Law will take place, with Dennis Patterson (European University Institute). The session is moderated and commented by Eduardo Ducla Soares (Institute of Biophysics and Biomedical Engineering of the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Lisbon) and Maria Fernanda Palma (University of Lisbon School of Law).

Further conferences will be held in 2017 and will be announced in due time.

Workshop on Evidence Law

The Institute of Criminal Law and Criminal Sciences and its Research Centre CIDPCC are organizing the workshop Reanchoring Evidence Law to Formal Rules, as part of the research seminar on evidence law.

The workshop will take place on October 12th at 6:30 pm, under coordination of Prof. Stephen C. Thaman (University of Saint Louis), Prof. Paulo de Sousa Mendes (University of Lisbon School of Law) and CIDPCC, and Vânia Costa Ramos (lawyer and researcher at CIDPCC).

Major issues of criminal law and theory of justice in the 21st century

The Research Centre for Criminal Law and Criminal Sciences organizes the conference «Major issues of criminal law and theory of justice in the 21st century».

The first conference will take place at the Law School of the University of Lisbon, September, 29 on the foundations of contemporary normative orders: terrorism and state of exception.

The second conference will be held on November, 17 on the Neuroscientific Challenge to Law.

Further conferences will be held in 2017 and will be announced in due time.

Meeting Science 2016

The Research Centre for Criminal Law and Criminal Sciences participates in the meeting “Science 2016”, with Maria Fernanda Palma and Augusto Silva Dias as speakers in the technical session “Law science in the 21st century”(Wednesday, 6th July, 11:30am). This meeting is organized by FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, in collaboration with Ciência Viva, Academia das Ciências de Lisboa and the Education and Science Committee of the Portuguese parliament.

Conference: Beyond “Crimes against minds“

The Research Centre for Criminal Law and Criminal Sciences organizes the conference «Beyond “Crimes against minds“: Mapping cognitive “enhancement” technologies (ethical, policy, (criminal) law, and human rights aspects)» with Alexander Gerner (Center for Philosophy of Sciences of the University of Lisbon).

The conference will take place at the Law School of the University of Lisbon, on 8th of June.
