The Institute of Criminal Law and Criminal Sciences, represented by its president Maria Fernanda Palma, was among the heard entities at a hearing of the Portuguese Parliament’s Committee on Constitutional Affairs, Rights, Freedoms and Guarantees, which took place on 16th of February, concerning bills 61/XIII/1ª, 62/XIII/1ª and 63/XIII/1ª, proposing amendments to Civil Code, Criminal Code and Electoral Laws with regard to legal incapacities and disqualification from voting and fundamental rights of elderly people.

The Research Centre on Criminal Law and Criminal Sciences organizes a conference on “The Libet Experiments: Neurosciences and Criminal Law”, with Eduardo Ducla-Soares (Institute of Biophysics and Biomedical Engineering of the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Lisbon). The conference takes as a starting point the experiments Libet performed and the interpretations they originated, and addresses the relationships that exist between Neurosciences and Criminal Law. There has been much debate on this topic in recent times, having given rise to disciplines such as Neuroethics and Neurolaw.
This conference is part of the monthly investigation seminar Seminário de Investigação Mensal 1 (SIM 1, coordinator Maria Fernanda Palma), and is open to the public.
